Aneeqa Khan (29) former strategy director at Zoopla and Guy Hands youngest hire at just 21, has turned her hand to modernising the way interiors professionals do business.
A simple flat redecoration was behind the launch of eporta in 2015, which with more than 2000 interiors professionals and 750 suppliers on the site is a one stop shop for interiors professionals to discover pieces from all over the world.
Whilst searching for furniture for her Brixton flat and holding down a busy job, Aneeqa was unable to find pieces online easily and simply – unusual pieces that didn’t mean she had to trawl trade fairs or unknown boutiques. She wanted measurements, good images and to know where a piece was made and perhaps get it made bespoke to fit her own sizes or scheme. Digging deeper, she realised that professional buyers faced this problem on a daily basis and searching the globe for the ‘right piece’ was a hugely time consuming process.
“We wanted to create a design meritocracy where a professional can find the perfect item for their project whether that’s from an established brand or younger talent so we include tiny new but brilliant suppliers as well,” she says.
The site is deliberately uncurated and style agnostic and encompasses everything from Art Deco to mid-century modern and classic traditional. “It’s a completely new eco-system and solution for a fragmented global industry in which hundreds of thousands of brands are dotted around the world.”
Since launching in 2015, eporta has become the largest network in global interiors. It simplifies the buying process so that endless google searching to find the magic supplier no longer exists.
Eporta was the digital partner at Clerkenwell Design Week, allowing visitors to track and trade online post and pre show and to ditch the business card and brochures. With other collaborations and a series of lectures at the British Institute of Interior Design and KLC School of Design in the pipeline, eporta is committed to parachuting the interiors industry into the 21st century.
