By the end of April 2016, Snapchat was installed on 22.7% of all Android devices in the U.S. compared to 21.8% for Twitter. The Snapchat app has seen 18% growth in installations in the past six months in the U.S. to overtake Twitter.

Snapchat is also ahead of its rival when it comes to time spent on the app among users. The average daily time spent on Snapchat among its users is 20 minutes and 20 seconds. Twitter users spent an average of just 12 minutes 21 seconds on the app daily.

However, SimilarWeb found that both apps have higher than average retention rates after download. While the average app sees its average usage drop to 23% after only three days, both Snapchat and Twitter share a nearly 50% usage rate after three days. However, extremely popular apps such as Facebook and Whatsapp enjoyed respectively 80% and 79% usage rates 3 days after installation.
