With just a week to go until the Rio Paralympics, Victorious Games has been created by disability charity Papworth Trust who were inspired by the 1980’s ZX Spectrum classic Daley Thompson’s Decathlon.
The game, which is available to download for free on the App Store and Google Play, allows you to play as Jonnie Peacock – or one of four other characters representing different countries – and compete in the 100m.
In the spirit of the original cult classic, players can either tap or slide the screen to go for gold with the game having three levels of difficulty and both local and global leaderboards.
Jonnie, who won gold in London 2012 in the 100m T44 final, is again targeting a medal at next month’s Rio Paralympics.
“I was only too happy to support Victorious Games,” said Jonnie, who has already supported Papworth Trust with their ‘I Can’ campaign which focused on what disabled people can do.
“It was surreal seeing myself as an animated character, but I hope the game will show people the power of sport and help promote the charity’s work with disabled and older people.
“In my downtime during the Rio Paralympics, I will certainly be playing Victorious Games and trying to get myself up the leaderboard.”
Helen Fairhurst, head of marketing at the Trust, said: “We are delighted to have Jonnie’s support of this fun and accessible game.
“2012 inspired a generation and we hope that this reboot of a classic helps inspire young gamers as well as those that remember the original the first time around.
